LEGO Harry Potter is back, to every Potterhead’s delight! This year we will have more LEGO sets in the Wizarding World — in the shape of a new theme with this name. We do not yet know the full extent of the sets, but, let’s see what we do already know.
LEGO Harry Potter 2018 Wizarding World Sets Guide
We’re back into the Wizarding World this year, with a side of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them! There are many exciting things to explore thus far. We have seen some already at the New York Toy Fair.
75954 Hogwarts Great Hall
This set seems to be the main attraction thus far. At 858 pieces, it brings a wealth of materials and a wonderful façade of the Hogwarts Castle, but it’s the interior that surprises. Inside we find two Great Hall tables and two reversible House banners (Slytherin and Gryffindor). It’s exquisitely detailed, with torches (shaped like candles) and a fireplace.
The connected tower has a spiral staircase, what seems to be a potions-related room (not the classroom, we hope) and the Room of Requirement — which has the Mirror of Erised on it, showing Harry and his parents etched on it.
This set comes with a lot of minifigures as well. These include Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, Hermione Granger, Professor Snape, Professor McGonagall, Albus Dumbledore, Nearly Headless Nick, Draco Malfoy and Susan Bones. There is also a Professor Quirrell with a dual, Voldemort face. Hagrid comes with a lamp and his pink umbrella as well. The set also includes a new Sorting Hat!
The new minifigs are revamped, as well. Hagrid gets a new design, Harry has a new hair, as does Ginny. All these characters (the students) are also childlike, unlike previous versions which are more “adult” minifigs.
This version of the LEGO Hogwarts Castle (at least, the Great Hall, which presumably follows the pattern of other possible sets) looks different. It matches the movies and books more closely. Unlike the previous sand green colour, the roof is dark grey. Personally, we believe it looks far more realistic and stylish than green, but some might not agree. It also makes it so this set does not match previous sets. This definitely makes it a part of the LEGO Harry Potter 2018 Wizarding World sets, not previous collections.
As if these weren’t enough, we have a buildable Basilisk and Fawkes the Phoenix as well. This set presents part of the façade of the castle and the entrance hall, it also includes a boat with a lamp, in which Hagrid takes the students to the castle.
Other LEGO Wizarding World 2018 Sets
There’s more to this, though. There are talks that other sets will include other parts of the Hogwarts Castle, eventually to build the whole thing. We still do not know if this is true, but there is a rumoured Hogwarts Castle set (possibly set 71043). This might be a modular build, with different sets showing other parts, or not. We’ll have to wait and see.
Other rumoured possibilities are a new Ford Anglia Escape set. We already had one of these in the past, but this version should be more updated. Some say it will also include the Whomping Willow, which would be a first in the Harry Potter theme.
There is also word of an Aragog in the Forbidden Forest set, which would also mark a return of the Acromantula to the LEGO Harry Potter roster.
LEGO Harry Potter Collectable Minifigures?
2018 is a great year for LEGO Collectable Minifigures and, as well as Ninjago, we will get a set of Harry Potter/Wizarding World-related minifigures. This is very exciting as it could mean new, unique characters from the Wizarding World as well as remakes and new versions of older minifigures. This is a great opportunity for those who don’t have any of the older sets, or even for those who just like Harry Potter and want to play the mystery polybag game and find new and exciting minifigs to collect.
Usual suspects for the Harry Potter Collectable Minifigs: Harry, Ron, Hermione. But we also may get James Potter, Lily Potter (possibly with a baby Harry) as well as both Fred and George Weasley. There is also talk of Petunia, Vernon and Dudley Dursley making an appearance.
Madame Hooch may also make an appearance, as with the Quidditch set, as well as the four House Ghosts (Bloody Baron, Nearly Headless Nick, Fat Friar and Grey Lady). Moaning Myrtle might also appear as well as Sirius Black, which is great — and very unique. Sirius might come with his dog form as well.
Some of the suspected minifigs will appear in other LEGO Wizarding World 2018 sets as well, such as Nearly Headless Nick in the Great Hall set.
So what do you think? Are you excited about these LEGO Harry Potter 2018 Wizarding World sets? We at Ninja Brick sure are, so, stay tuned as we’ll update this post with more news about these sets.
